The Iran's 38th Anniversary of Islamic Revolution PDF Print E-mail

By Yusuf Abdullahi
In the name of Allah who states “verily, never will Allah change the condition of a people until they change it themselves with their own souls” Q13:11 .
May His everlasting peace and blessings be upon His noble servant, our master Muhammad and his purified progeny.

The Islamic republic of Iran was established subsequent to the success of the Imam Khomeini - led Islamic revolution in 1979. The country has evidently endured so much hardships through sanctions and imposed war. The developing world has so many lessons to learn from a country that was absolutely dependant and subservient to the world arrogance. But we could see how it quickly grows to the apex of science and technology. No doubt, the hatred against Iranian  nation by America and the West is borne out of hatred and jealousy. The Islamic revolution in Iran was no doubt one of those things that did not just happened by coincidence. Allah says “….if ye turn back (from the path), He will substitute in your stead Another people; then they would not be like you” Q47:37

In a hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah, as recorded by Imam al - Tabari, the companions asked the messenger; with whom should we be substituted if we turn back? He touched the shoulder of Salman, the Persian and said this and his people! In his Tarjama - Raddul azhaan - Shaikh Gumi has recorded it as well. Imam Jaafar al - Saadiq (as recorded in volume two of Bihar al  - Anwar, pages 445 and 446) has said “A great man of Qom will invite people towards truth and freedom, and they will accept his call resolutely and with an iron will gather round him. They are individuals who fear no calamities and unpleasant happenings and never tire of combat and endeavor. Their only hope and refuse is Allah. Ultimate victory and success belong to chaste and virtuous people and those who follow the way of Allah”

To know the extent of the late Imam Khomeini's works, one must study Iran before the success of Islamic revolution. In other words, when it was completely subservient to Israel, America and other Western powers. Those days, it was neither productive nor self - reliant. Farming was killed through a memorandum signed with Israel in the name of what they called white revolution. Education, health, commerce and all other sectors of human endeavors were deliberately  destroyed. Their good virtues and moral values were down due to infiltration of western cultures that encouraged all sorts of immoral activities in the name of freedom and civilization.

The Shah's inherited monarchy was very strong seeing the light for over two thousand years relatively unopposed. The Imam asthe leader of the revolution and founder of the Islamic republic was born to a renowned family of scholarship, devotion and jihad on the 20th of Jimada - thani, 1420 H, equivalent to 24th September, 1902 in Khomein, central province of Iran. Ayatollah Sayyid Mustapha was his father who named him Ruhullah, al - Moosawi al – Khomeini in line with his blessed lineage with the noble prophet (S). His educational career started in the hand of his father who was given license to practice in his people after extensive scholarship. No doubt, the Imam was blessed with known superlative intelligence in his wide and long history of scholarship from his parent, elder brother Morteza Pasandideh and scholars from theological assembly of Arak and other places. Not long however, his father, Sayyid Mustapha was assassinated by the Shah's regime for his prominent rise against its tyranny. The Imam's mother, Banoo Hajar was the daughter of Ayatollah Khonsari from the famous family of knowledge and chastity. Imam later migrated to Qom where he took complementary lessons from the great scholars of his time like the grand Ayatollah Hajj. Abdul Kareem Haeri Yazdi, in addition to deep studies in Islamic and western philosophy.

The Imam married Sayyidah Khadija Khanom, daughter of a great scholar with whom he was blessed with Saada; Mustapha, Ahmad and Zahra among other children.

Treading the steps of his martyred father, the Imam courageously led the struggle against tyranny and oppression to its conclusive end. He proudly led to success the best remembered and ever - lasting revolution of the last centuries. Obviously, the Islamic revolution in Iran was very exceptional in the way and time it triumphantly occurred bearing the nature of Islam which totally opposes tyranny and oppression. Discussing the Islamic  revolution in Iran is tantamount to swimming in a boundless ocean, as it has many aspects for justice to be made. However, in a piece like this, I can only stress few lessons for our reflection.

The Imam preached against the tyrannical regime of the Shah used by Western powers in suppressing the people and exploiting their resources in addition to various Islamic disciplines he taught. Consequently, the Imam and his students were severely persecuted for their faith. Sometimes soldiers would attack the prominent Faydhiyyah school where the Imam taught throwing students down from its top leading to their martyrdom, including many assassination attempts on the life of the Imam.

On his scholarly activities, the Imam has authored numerous books which include Tahreerul waseelah, Kashful asraar and Hukuumatul islamiyyah - governance of the jurist, which emphasized the need for submission to religious authority of the jurist, among others. The Imam was forced to migrate to Turkey, Iraq and finally to France for his staunch position against the western backed  - Shah administration for the period of fourteen years, 1965 to 1979. On this return from Paris, the Imam was warmly welcomed by more than seven million people chanting “Allahu Akbar” “neither East nor West, but Islamic republic!” “Khomeini is the leader” and so on, at the Beheshti Zahra - a graveyard where most of the revolution martyrs were buried. And no sooner he had finished, things began to change for better as government forces like the Air force paid allegiance to him!

With the fall of the Shah government under his stooge Baktiar, Imam said “Islam and the Islamic republic were a trust given to us by Allah, the Most Exalted and Most High” He immediately ordered for the historic referendum of the 1st April, 1979 for the establishment of Islamic republic where more than 98% voted in support, hence, the establishment of Islamic system and republic after many years of struggle and sacrifice against injustice. Evidently, the Islamic system was the only guarantee to freedom and justice in the country. With absolute help of Allah, success was realized despite the countless western and eastern conspiracies under physical execution of their lackeys. This struggle has also encouraged all other people in the world to free themselves from western domination.

After the success of the revolution, enemies of the Islamic republic used their direct and indirect influences to frustrate the efforts of the Imam but all proved abortive. Use of counter revolutionary groups such as Munafiqun Khalq Organization (MKO), then Iraqi despotic leader, Saddam Husein, the CIA, the SAVAK and many others that were sufficiently funded woefully failed and to its dismay witnessed the overwhelming success of the revolution. The Islamic republic of Iran which stands firm is apparently envied by Israel, America and western powers that are only good in domination of the weak, exploitation of people's resources and  promotion of evils in the name of freedom. The unending nuclear talk is a clear evidence of such envies against the fast growing Islamic republic  not in science and technology but all fields of human endeavors. Whoever travelled to Iran or is fully aware of its development can attest to the fact that the country is very successful indeed! Unlike in the kingdoms, sheikhdoms and sultanates of the Arab that traditionally or partially apply Shari'ah, its application in Iran is total. And in the light of the concept of Wilayatul faqih, today’s Iran has replaced the shah’s monarchy with absolute Islamic system under the leadership of the pious. Both the state and nation are under a spiritual leader who is the custodian of Islamic rules and values. Under him is the all - Ulama Guardian council that supervises all laws passed by the National Assembly to ensure strict compliance with Islamic Shari’ah. Beside the spiritual leader, Guardian council and the Majlis, there are the country’s president who heads the executive arm of the government and the independent Judiciary. The five arms work harmoniously and are not only accountable to one another but to Allah the omnipresent and Most High!

Right from the days of the Imam, the Islamic revolution has achieved a lot. And, with the thirty eight years after, the country has tremendously developed in science, economy, infrastructure and space technology! Most interestingly is the simplicity of life led by political and working class due to the example set by the Imam himself. I shed tears during my first visit to the small house the Imam rented and lived in Jamaran, northern Tehran from which he demised on 6th June 1989! May Allah shower His endless mercy on him. The Imam is generally remembered for significant institutions like the International Quds day, the Unity week and International women's day among others. So also his prophesies on the collapse of communism and global rise of Islam! Upon his demise, he was succeeded by his pious and  audacious disciple Sayyid Ali Khamne’i (may Allah protect him) as the spiritual leader of Islamic republic.  Irrespective of the enemies' propaganda, the Imam was cherished by the Ummah as a whole except those confused minds who deliberately refuse to justify his works "... For surely it is not the eyes that are blind, but blind are the hearts which are in the breasts" Q22:46

It is very clear as the advent of Ibn Fodio was prophesized by Umma as recorded in Infaaqul maysuur, Imam Khomeini's as sighted above, we envisage a great future for this country with the insightful guardianship of the oppressed leader of the Islamic Movement, Shaikh el-Zakzaky (H) as similarly prophesized by Ibn Fodio in Bishrul Ahbaab. The Shaikh is noted for his justice and absolute concern for the unity, stability and well being of the country.

While praying for Allah’s bountiful mercy on the great Imam, safety of the revolution, we use this medium to emphasize the urgent need for the Shaikh's unconditional release together with his teeming disciples.

Wassalamu alaikum!
