Jailed Members Of
IM Dispersed To Various Nigerian Prisons. By our
correspondent
| The
persecuted members of the Islamic Movement in
Nigeria in Sokoto that were jailed 11 years that
will run un-concurrently by the Magistrate Court
11 of Sokoto have been dispersed to various
prisons in the southern parts of the country
recently. 109 of the 130 serving jail terms,
including minors have been dispersed to Owerri,
Enugu, Calabar, nasarawa, Kuje, Jos, Edo, Minna,
Umwahia, Abakalaki, Gboko, Nsuka, Makurdi and
Wukari prisons. |
Those taken to Makurdi are Al-Mustapha Umar Gidan
Haka, Ahmad Abdullahi, Zayyanu Usman Illela, Bello Aliyu
Kanwuri and Hussaini Buba. At Abakaliki are Usman Bello
Abubakar, Musa Muhajir, Anas Garba Nura and Al-Kali Qasim,
while at Nsuka are Malam Kabiru Umar, Muhammad Sani, Jamilu
Abdul Qadir, Musa Abdullahi and Zayyanu Aliy.
So far no official statement has been issued either by
the prisons authorities or the state government on this
action.
Meanwhile the head of the Sokoto Center of the Islamic
Movement, Malam Qaseem Umar is still left in Sokoto with
other members that include those that are yet to be
convicted whose charges differ from the charges of those
that have already been convicted.
It would be recalled that the Islamic Movement Counsel
has appealed further after judgment had been passed;
dispersing the jailed members of the prison to various
prisons around the country is seen by some observers as a
deliberate attempt at creating constraints for the appellant
when the appeal case resumes.
Also, reports have shown that the various prisons they
have been taken to have barred them from receiving visitors
and making other contacts. Members of the Islamic Movement
in Imo that visited those taken to Owerri were detained for
some hours before they were later released and warned never
to come close to the prison again.
The head of the Kaduna Center of the Islamic Movement,
Malam Mukhtar Sahabi has during the post-Friday prayer
sermon condemned the persecutions perpetrated by Alu
Magatakarda Wammakko in Sokoto describing him as a tyrant
and oppressor that is very close to facing the wrath of God
Almighty. Hundreds of those present at the sermon joined in
praying for the quick wrath of God Almighty to befall
Wammakko.
