Persecution of Muslims brothers in Sokoto continues. 25/7/07

The persecution of Muslim brothers in Sokote enters its sixth  day since the  assault  by combine team of Military and Police on Members of the Islamic Movement resulting in killing not less than five Members of the Islamic Movement and destruction of their  properties.

Not less than fifty (50) houses are known to be affected within 24 hrs, among which is sixteen houses  belonging to Group 3 Business Network Associates( Some prominent business men in Sokoto) who yesterday in a press brief with members of the press denied being Shiites. Yet their lives and properties are not spared.

Another property belonging to Dr. Musa, an Orthopedic Specialist, whom the mob accused of being Shiites was also burnt.

In an interview with one of the perpetrators who declined to mention his name, he explained that they have full support of the government and sultanate. “ don’t you know that our present governor promised to deal with Shiites?” he said.

In another development a prominent scholar in Sokoto and his cohorts, Sheikh Abubakar Jibril, is reportedly compiling the names of Muslim brothers working in various institutions in the state to present it to the governor for immediate dismissal
