Ayatollah Khamenei has warned Muslim countries of the West's schemes to defeat revolutions and hijack the current popular awakening. He made the statement in an address to participants in the first international conference on Islamic Awakening on Saturday.

The Leader also urged Muslim nations to stand up against foreign interference in their countries and not fall for the enemy's false promises and claims of support.

Ayatollah Khamenei cautioned Muslims against putting trust in the US, NATO and Britain, and said the enemies are trying to defeat revolutions through terrorism, civil war, sanctions and propaganda campaigns.

The Leader also urged Muslim countries to avoid ethnic and religious divisions and pointed out that mutual understanding between Islamic factions is key to victory.

according to him, the main principle of revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa is the revitalization of national dignity which has been undermined and trampled by dictatorships under corrupt rulers and domination of the US and the West,

The Leader added that the revival of Islamic values, restoration of the right to justice, development and flourishing, and resistance against the US and European hegemony and Israeli aggression were among other basic tenets of the revolutions.

The Leader further called on Muslims to rely on God and His promises, and to practice common wisdom, determination and bravery in order to overcome problems and threats.

Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution as an important chapter in history which has inspired the regional developments.

Earlier, General Secretary of the conference, Ali Akbar Velayati, announced earlier that more than 500 scholars and prominent figures from 80 countries were participating in the two-day event, which opened Saturday morning at the IRIB International Conference centre, IRNA reported.
