Umayyads Tribalised Islam Just as Jews Tribalised their Religion.

Sheikh Zakzaky continued to explained the state of affairs after the demise of the Prophet(AS).

He Explained that the  Meccan Quraish who in the first place rejected the Prophet  were after revenge. This is seen by the conduct of Yazid, who after his armies' attack in Medina plundered the sanctity of the holy Mosque after killing  the Ansars( The supporters of the Prophet in Medina),  dishonor the Holy Quran, molested and raped Muslim women in the holy Mosque in what is called the Event of Hirrah

The Yazid Armies over stepped all boundary in their deal with the Prophet’s progeny, the Quran, the followers of Ahlul Bayt(AS) among the companions, the holy mosque;  all of them were subjected to various forms of dishonor.

The Yazid armies even destroyed walls of Kaába when he sent  a contingent of soldiers to Mecca and ordered them to kill Imam Husain(AS) wherever they might find him, even if they were to get him inside the holy Ka’aba. It was well known fact that even Jahilliyah societies had respect for Ka’aba, but Yazid ordered its destruction.

Sheikh Zakzaky giving lecture during Ashura gathering in Zaria

After the killing of Imam Husain in Karbala Yazid was able to perpetrate all his evil works, he even promised to climb the Holy Ka’aba and consume alcohol  as a mockery to Islam and Prophet hood. So ,nothing was spared after the killing of Imam Husain(AS).

According to the view of  Quraish all what the Prophet did in establishing Islam and system of leadership,  was based on Tribalism that was why immediately after the demise of the promise they were so much concerned with meetings on the issue of leadership at Thaqeefa despite the fact that the Prophet had already declared his successors.

The Position of Imamate is an exalted one and cannot be contested by any. God almighty has already made decision on matter and made Imam Ali as the chosen one as well as his progeny.

However the Quraish baselessly claimed that  Prophet hood and Imamate cannot be confined to Banu Hashim alone, thus rejecting Imam Ali by all means from his God-given Position.

When Banu Ummayad took over the Caliphate, they  confined all positions to members of their  clan and some of their supporters. It was Ummayad Caliphate, Uthman  in particular who returned Hakam back to Medina after  he was sent out of it by the holy Prophet.

The utterances of Abu Sufyan were recorded in history were he cautioned the Umayyads not to ever allowed the issue of leadership to slip away from them.

Sheikh explained further that there were serious crises and unrest during the Uthman and after his death people paid allegiance to Imam Ali without the Imam calling them for it. Imam Ali outlined some conditions which they all agreed to abide by.

While in Sham, Mua’waiyyah was there waiting for any outcome from Medina. There were a lot of conspiracies going there in Medina among some Quraish notably Talha and Zubair on how to dislodge Imam Ali. Though each of Talha and Zubiar aspired for leadership without  declaring their intention  publically. At the same time Mu’awiyah was there waiting for any outcome which he could do to take over too.

Therefore, people were divided into two categories- those with Imam Ali, others with Mu’awiyyah while few pretended to be non-alliance. Sheikh Zakzaky added that non-alliance should not have existed for the fact that there was a line between Truth and falsehood and one should always be with the Truth.

He added that Imam Ali could get all the support from Quraish had it been he followed their desire in running the affairs of the state. Some of their wishes include treachery and to give positions to their tribes and clans etc. They  wanted the Imam to share political positions according to leaders of tribes and clans, which is the sunnah of Mu’awiyyah.

However, Imam Ali always followed the principle of Islam and the Sunnah of the Prophet, Sheikh noted.

Sheikh Zakzaky added that every of the 12 Imams of Ahlul Bayt(AS) had a special mission in his time, Imam Ali left legacy of leadership and politics- system , leadership and how to run the affairs of the people in accordance with the Islamic principles.

On the other hand, the Banu Umayya wanted to tribalise leadership just as Jews tribalised their religion. Umayyad divided people into First Class citizens comprising of their tribes and clans and the  Second Class  consisting of  the rest of Arabs and non –Arabs .

However, Islam could have been  a tribal matter  if not because of the sacrifice of Imam Husain (AS). The sacrifice of Imam Husain(AS) revived the religion of Islam which it could have been tribalised so that all other people would have been slaves.

At the end of the lecture there was  latmiyyah poetry by Mustafa Umar. Sheikh Zakzaky recited dua kumayl and a closing prayer.
